Erasing Musical Boundaries

Ultra-cool Where Mood Indigo is the Theme

...burgundy's concept is to provide a spacious living room where people can enjoy good live music, quality drinks and fine cigars in a warm, relaxed atmosphere. There is an extensive selection of wines, frozen vodkas, spirits, martinis, champagnes, cocktails and high-end snacks available. The bar, as the main attraction, features a see-through wine cellar and vodka freezer.

On the evening we dropped in, the entire ensemble presented an impressive vista. Full of glamorous ladies sporting all sorts of expensive jewelry, and relative suave and sophisticated gentlemen, it was immediately clear that burgundy is not the sort of place for those of us lacking in self-confidence.

There's no doublt about it, though, it's a great place for spotting some of Jakarta's beautiful people. In fact, with all the smiles and so much sparkling jewelry, not to mention a penchant for mirrors on the part of burgundy's Japanese designers, Super Potato, it's not really all that surprising so many of the punters are to be found sporting shades.

But what really sets burgundy apart from all the other would-be wannabes in Jakarta is the wonderful music.

The young lady singer from New York [Elizabeth Chauncey], plus fellow New Yorker Greg McKenzie on piano with Mood Indigo, were capable of performing unearthly magic on everything from classic jazz ballads and upbeat blues to bossa nova and contemporary tunes.

But a word of warning before you decide to mosey on down: Smart-casual is the order of the day, as this is not the sort of place where those in shorts and singlets will be welcomed with open arms. So, it does pay to put in a bit of an effort before setting off for a night out in burgundy. I think you'll find it well worth it though.
